If you were to do a separate search for carbohydrates, calories and metabolism on the internet not surprisingly you would find a lot of information on one and reference to the unbreakable connection that it has with the other two! In a rare opportunity I was able to get these three to agree to a candid interview. All three agreed to answer two questions but required that the two questions be the same.
I accepted their terms and began my two question interview with Carbohydrates;
Carbohydrates, why are you important for the human body?
(Answer) “When you eat carbohydrates, the body breaks them down into simple sugars, which are absorbed into the bloodstream. As the sugar level raises in your body, the pancreas releases a hormone called insulin. Insulin is needed to move sugar from the blood into the cells, where the sugar can be used as a source of energy.”
“What advice would you give to someone who wants to lose weight?”
(Answer) “Since eating carbohydrates interrupts the process of metabolizing fat for about six hours, unless you are starting a marathon run, my advice would be to skip me before your workout so that the fat burning can begin!
Metabolism, Why are you important for the human body?
(Answer) “In effect, I am ALL of the physical and chemical processes in your body that convert or use energy. This would include:
• Digesting food
• Breathing
• Circulating blood
• Contracting muscle
And so on…
“What advice would you give to someone who wants to lose weight?”
(Answer) “Give me more to do! And I don’t mean just once in a while. If you’re going to sit on the couch and watch TV I’ll find something to do. It won’t be much, but I’m ready to go the minute you are. I really like it when you build muscle! Since muscle burns more calories than fat -- even while at rest -- the more muscles you have, the higher your resting metabolic rate, which means the more calories your body will be burning just to sustain you. I don’t know why but a lot of people just don’t get it!”
Well…thank you. I think having all three of you here answering the same questions was a good idea.
Calories, Why are you important for the human body?
(Answer) “I supply the ENERGY. Humans need energy to survive. The number of calories in a food can tell you how much potential energy that food has. Let me show you,
• 1 g Carbohydrates: 4 calories
• 1 g Protein: 4 calories
• 1 g Fat: 9 calories
If you know how many carbohydrates, fats and proteins are in any given food, you know how many calories, or how much energy, that food contains.
“What advice would you give to someone who wants to lose weight?”
(Answer) “You better keep me under control! Calories aren't bad for you. Your body needs calories for energy. But eating too many calories — and not burning enough of them off through activity — can lead to weight gain.
No one but you can influence your body into burning calories and increasing metabolic rate. You need to keep in mind that all physical activity burns calories even activities like sleeping, standing or sitting. Dropping one pound per week leads to long term weight loss. If you really want to lose weight you should transform "BURNING CALORIES" from a good idea into a way of life. Slow weight loss is known to be the most effective and safest plan.
There you have it! All three have given some excellent weight loss advice but I think that “Calories” summed it up best by saying “if you really want to lose weight you should transform…..a good idea into a way of life.
