What's That Noise?
I was staying at my grand mothers home for a few weeks to help her landscape. One evening, while watching TV, I heard repeated loud "thumps" and felt the house shake at the same time.
"What's that noise?" I asked. My grand mother came into the livingroom and said, " That's Jen!"
"What in the world is she doing?" I asked. My grand mother rolled her eyes and began telling me about Jen's failed attempts to lose weight. "Jen has become so frustrated", my grand mother sighed, "that she is literally banging her hips up against the side of the house!"
I sat there in silence, with my mouth open, while my brain tried to wrap itself around the level of frustration that would drive someone to the point of beating their body against a brick wall to lose weight!
Tell-Tale Signs of Diets gone Bad.
When I got out of bed the next day, Jen was first in my thoughts. I went to the kitchen for a cup of coffee and noticed a large 32 oz. tumbler next to the coffee pot. I remember seeing another one in the livingroom (with a bent straw in it) and one on the kitchen table.
There were weight loss magazines and paperback books with photos of smiling doctors in every room of the house. There were jars and bottles of vitamins and suppliments in the bathroom. A sign on the refrigerator that read "DO NOT OPEN". Wrappers and various uneaten packages of food from a well known weight loss meal plan...and in the spare bedroom where I was staying there was a treadmill buried beneath piles of cloths, a VCR that doesn't work anymore and a box of christmas decorations.
I began to see why Jen was at such a high level of frustration. In her mind, Jen tried EVERYTHING but, on her body, NOTHING worked.
Where Did Jen Go Wrong?
I have devoted a lot of time researching and writing about weight loss. It doesn't suprise me that Jen and many others like her fail in their attempts to lose weight. There are two things that Jen did not do everytime she started a new weight loss endeavor.
Jen didn't include exercise in her plan to lose weight! WHY? Because Jen was taken by all of the promise and hype that she heard or read and not much , if anything, was being said about exercise. All they care about is getting people like Jen to buy their pill or drink their suppliment or sign up for their weight loss meal plan...as if that's all there is to it!
The second thing that Jen failed to do was getting on a weight loss program. There are many reasons why a weight loss program is essential. A program:
•Keeps you focused on your goals
•Gives you a clear plan to follow
•Helps you adjust to the changes your body is making
•keeps you on track
...and so much more!
Where is Jen Now?
I hadn't seen Jen for a long time but a death in the family got us all back togeather. When I saw Jen I made a wise crack about banging her hips against the house and then I started to tell her about a great weight loss program that I am involved with. I told her that I have taken all of the weight loss basics that are proven to work and put them on my blog but before I could finish Jen informed me that she was going to have stomach reduction surgery and walked away leaving me standing there with my mouth open once again!
